Anyone know of any effective but simple diets/diet tips? Weight gain after giving up smoking!

i gave up smoking a few months back and have put on around 20lbs already.
i've gone up another dress size and i wasn't slim to begin with!

Wow! It seems everyone has their two cents to add... If only we ALL were in a position to give advice!
Loz, I'm not sure why you feel you can't exercise, but... You have to. Besides, there's no better feeling than being in shape! Regardless of age. Don't listen to those who say to cut carbs... You need carbs! Just go easy on the simple carbs, stay the HELL away from: table sugar and high fructose corn syrup. Go easy on the potatoes and bread. This is by no means cutting out carbs! Just go for the complex carbs. Learn to LOVE veggies. Oats are the best way to get your carbs in IMO, or Ezekiel bread is good too. For protein eat lots of fish, chicken breasts and egg whites, and also the occasional LEAN steak or roast. Tenderloin or filet are good.
Eat regularly, eat often. Don't starve! Don't go for the Atkins and for the love of Thor don't go vegan! Animals were meant to be eaten! Otherwise they wouldn't taste so good.
Dont go on a diet, or the results will almost definitely be temporary! You're going on a lifestyle change, not a diet. Don't do cheat days, but have the occasional cheat meal. After a while, you won't crave carbs, sugars, etc.

Anyway, I had hoped to stop hearing more a out the goddamn annual meeting, but my dad seems to want to forward to me all of the ridiculous forwards he gets about it. Just got another one. I'll make you guys suffer as well...
Here is a story told at the annual meeting......
You know how the society has been cutting costs, part time help, cutting back on cd;s selling property etc... well , you know the famous WATCHTOWER READ GODS WORD DAILY " sign is on one side of the place,,,, well ,,, on the other side is a sign but also a clock which is lit at night! Well the G.B, decided that it cost too much in electricity so they decided to turn it off! Now remember , this has been lit since forever as far as bethel goes. Well they got inundated with phone calls and Emails telling them that the clock was dark and the lights were out, The brothers would politely answer that yes they understood but that they are cutting costs so decided to turn it off. WELL..... the MAYORS office eventually p honed and said that THEY were inundated with calls objecting to the clock being turned off , so when the brothers told them about the cost cutting the mayor said....." We will have a man come over and put a meter on that side and the City will pay for it!!!! .........WOW talk about a LANDMARK!!!! JEHOVAH is amazing and truly awe inspiring!!!Barf.
So far I have yet to hear a single JW mention the Noo Lite. Just more BS about the oh so glorious GB.

Wife's FS report for last month... Zero!

A few weeks ago on the long drive back from the assembly we talked about FS. I stated that I officially have no plans to ever go out again. We Also talked about how ineffective door to door is. I quoted some JWfacts stats (thanks to mr. Grundy) and she was surprised at the figures. I also briefly mentioned how the bible doesn't say we have to preach, especially door to door. Not sure that stuck though. She opened up a bit and said she doesn't believe only JWs will survive the big A. She expressed concern for the billions of people who are either doing their best, or haven't had an opportunity to learn the bible. What I was trying to drive at was how pointless it all is, and how the focus is to place pubs, not teach anyone. She wouldn't admit it.
So now flash forward a few weeks, and she still hasn't been in FS. She isn't usually stellar (3-8hrs/mo), but usually goes out to "get some time in." Which is also silly if the goal is saving people.
SO. I know that both of us putting in reports with goose eggs on them will bring the hounders around. She knows I don't want to talk to them. I want to congratulate her on her zero, but know I shouldn't. How do I deal with her guilt? Which I'm sure she has. I don't want to over do it or spoil it. I want her to be okay with defying WT orders! How do I proceed? Advice please...

Our situations are very similar. Please don't do like I did and bombard your wife with info about how the WT is wrong! It's useless.
As far as the issues you listed... You'll just have to do the research and decide for yourself! It's diddicult to learn how to read the bible objectively, without WT blinders on. Once you learn to do this, it's amazing to realize how JWs are unable to understand the scriptures! Sit at the meeting during the bible highlights... And the silly comments that come forth... It's crazy.
Your story is a good example of how the mind control can be tough to break. You almost did it years ago and it really bothered you, but it didn't quite take. If you haven't researched cult mind control and cognitive dissonance, please do.
I know what you mean about wanting the WT to be right.. The cost of leaving is so great.
